2005 was the first year for the Hawke's Bay Regional Interschool Teams Chess Tournament.
It was held at FlaxRock in Flaxmere, Hastings on Friday 5th August, 2005, and was well supported by local schools.  Special thanks must go to Flaxmere College for making sure that there was a Secondary section!

27 teams of four players from 10 different schools competed for three trophies (Primary,Intermediate and Secondary), and the right to represent Hawke's Bay at the North Island Interschool Teams Chess Tournament in September.

Peterhead School performed very well, winning both the Primary and Intermediate sections.  The Secondary section was won by Te Aute College.  These two schools went on to represent Hawke's Bay at the North Island Championships.
